The passionate and principled political career of Jennifer Cashmore MHA

Our speaker for the February meeting is Dr Jenny Tilby-Stock who will speak on the topic of The passionate and principled political career of Jennifer Cashmore MHA. Dr Tilby Stock, who in retirement, is a Visiting Research Fellow, is currently researching South Australia’s early women MP’s and is well equipped to speak on the life of South Australia’s fifth female State MP Jennifer Cashmore.

Jennifer Lilian Cashmore AM was SA’s 5th female State MP. Her 15 years in the House of Assembly, from 1977 to 1993, goes some way to explaining why, until relatively recently, few women aspired to, or succeeded, in forging a career in politics. This talk will delve beyond the eulogies to honour this exceptional woman.

Dr Jenny Tilby-Stock, trained as a secondary school teacher. She spent most of her working life teaching Australian Politics and Political History in universities. In retirement, as a Visiting Research Fellow, she is researching and publishing a work on SA’s early women MPs.
