The National Archives – revealing personal stories related to the City of Burnside n National Archives – revealing personal stories related to the City of Burnside

Presented by Dr Sara King

On the surface of it the National Archives would seem to only describe the official story of the Commonwealth of Australia, but in actual fact it holds a wonderfully rich array of records related to the everyday lives of Australians throughout the 20th century. From naturalisations to military service, postal records, immigration and internment, the archives of the Commonwealth will surprise you with the breadth and depth of personal stories relating to local communities such as the City of Burnside.

Dr Sara King has worked in the Adelaide office of the National Archives of Australia since 2009. Her thesis on Italian migration to South Australia was completed in 2007 at Flinders University and she has maintained research interests in migration and South Australian history. She is the author of the 2013 National Archives research guide ‘Commonwealth Records about South Australia’ and is currently working as an exhibitions curator at the National Archives.
