Renewal of Her Majesty’s Theatre
Presented by Legh Davis
Affectionately known as the Maj, Her Majesty’s Theatre opened in 1913 as the Tivoli and at that time was regarded as the finest theatre in Australia. WC Fields, Rudolf Nureyev, Dame Joan Sutherland and Barry Humphries are among the many celebrities to have graced its stage. The Maj closed in April this year for a $66 million upgrade which will increase the seating capacity from 970 to almost 1500.
Legh Davis has degrees in law and economics and is a Fellow of the Certified Practising Accountants. He is Chairman of the Adelaide Festival Centre Foundation which is currently raising $5 million in support of the Maj renewal. Legh was a Liberal Member of the Legislative Council of South Australia from 1979-2002 during which time he was Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Council.
