Prince Alfred College
Presented by Geoff Bean
Prince Alfred College was founded in 1869 and celebrated its Centenary in 1969. In his lecture Geoffrey Bean will address the immediate post- Centenary years of the 1970s and 1980s. Time seemed to have stood still during the glorious post-war years of the 1950s and 1960s, but it was not going to stand still for ever, and things were never going to be plain- sailing for a young ‘Pom’ in a very Australian school.
Born in Sunderland in depression-ravaged North East England in 1934, Geoffrey Bean arrived in Adelaide as a ’10 Pound Pom’ on 11 January 1970 with his wife and three children aged five and under. Geoffrey was Headmaster of the College from 1970-87. Following his time as Headmaster he has been involved with a wide range of community organisations.
